The well manicured lawn has been a tradition for many years. Whole industries have been created around the lawn. We have the lawn fertilizer industry, lawn maintenance equipment industry, lawn maintenance companies etc. It just so happens that lawns are very costly and labor intensive. Thirsty lawns consume large quantities of water and fertilizers used to feed them pollute water ways. Besides just looking at them, lawns give almost nothing in return for all of the energy that is poured into them. These reasons as well as others led to the removing of the grass in my backyard and to the replacing of it with an organic garden. In the future I will also be removing my front lawn and replacing it with an organic garden too. Besides cutting the grass for good I will get rid of my lawn mower at the same time
